Led by Dr. Viraj Mehta, MD, one of the Washington Metropolitan area’s most highly regarded oculoplastic surgeons, See Clearly Vision offers patients an extensive range of cosmetic, corrective and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and surrounding areas.
Whether a patient is seeking medical or cosmetic services, Dr. Mehta and our team address each person’s particular needs and strive to achieve a natural, harmonious look to complement one’s unique features. Because of the specialized function and anatomy of the orbital area, it is essential to have a skilled oculoplastic surgeon perform these services.
See Clearly Vision’s Dr. Viraj Mehta, MD, specializes in the diagnosis and management of oculofacial surgery, complex oculofacial reconstruction, orbital and lacrimal surgery, and trauma in both children and adults. In addition, he is trained in minimally invasive aesthetic procedures like Botox, fillers, chemical peels, and lasers, as well as cosmetic surgery including eyelid blepharoplasty, browlifts, and facelifts. Additionally, Dr. Mehta is passionate about patient care, medical education, innovations in healthcare technology, and healthcare policy.
Our Oculoplastics specialist, Dr. Mehta, offers a comprehensive plan for facial rejuvenation. We are now offering VI Peel, a mild to moderate chemical peel that is great for all skin tones and skin types.
Why Get a Chemical Peel?
There are many different depths and types of chemical peels, but the guiding principle is to remove the outer surface layers of blemished, dull, dead cells and to stimulate growth of vibrant, rejuvenated skin. Chemical peels are a relatively easy, non-invasive, in-office procedure with minimal down time. As we spend more time indoors socially-distancing, and more time in video-conferences, chemical peels can offer facial rejuvenation more cost-effectively than lasers or surgery!
What are some different types of peels?
There are many different types of chemical peels that target various layers of the skin. The deeper the peel, the longer the recovery and higher risk, but ultimately better result.
Superficial Peels: One common superficial peel ingredient an Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA). These compounds can be found in over-the-counter products because of their good safety profile. Glycolic acid is a common AHA that is combined with other medical grade peels, or found in many skin care products. Another superficial peel ingredient is Salicylic Acid. These peels cause very superficial sloughing of abnormal cells and are good for very small improvements in skin tone and texture.
Medium Peels: Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) in concentrations up to 30% is the most common medium depth peel. These peels penetrate deeper into the dermis to provide stronger effects.
Deep Peels: Deep chemical peels penetrate well in the layers of the dermis to stimulate even more shedding and sloughing of the outer skin layers. Deep peels include higher concentrations of TCA or Phenol.
What skin conditions can VI Peel address?
This specific chemical peel has a combination of Salicylic acid, TCA, Phenol and other ingredients that can address the following skin conditions:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin discoloration
- Acne and Acne Scarring
- Irregular, uneven Skin Tone
- Under-Eye Dark Circles
- Crow’s Feet around Eyes
- Dull Complexion
- Age Spots
- Sun Damage
What are the steps for this chemical peel?
VI Peel offers a mild to medium effect, often with noticeable results after just one treatment. The ease and relative safety of this product on all different skin types and tones makes it a great peel for most people.
A consultation is first required to discuss your skin concerns and goals. Dr. Mehta will evaluate your skin, and talk about all the potential rejuvenation options. If this peel is a good option, we can schedule a treatment.
STEP 1:
Clean your face with a gentle cleanser to remove make-up and oils.
STEP 2:
Cleanse your face even more with acetone to help remove any additional oil.
STEP 3:
Apply the chemical peel, which takes about 10-15 minutes. There is a little warmth and stinging, but it resolves in a few seconds.
After applying the peel, you are free to go home. We will provide a take-home care kit with detailed instructions. It is very important to not touch, wash, rub, or use make-up for at least 4-hours after the peel.
Am I a good candidate for a chemical peel?
Because this is a mild to moderate peel, VI Peel is relatively safe for any skin tone and for people with sensitive skin. It can be used in patients as young as 16 years old, especially to address acne concerns, or older patients to improve skin tone, texture, and clear up fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Mehta will assess your skin to determine if might benefit from the peel. This peel is not for everybody. If you have a history of cold sores, open wounds, healing issues, severe diabetes, autoimmune conditions, or are on Accutane, you may not be a good candidate. This chemical peel can be combined with surgery or Botox injections. There is always some risk with chemical peels, including burns and skin pigment changes, which Dr. Mehta will discuss with you prior to your treatment.
What is the recovery after a chemical peel like?
On Days 1 and 2 of the peel, the treated skin will feel tight and may appear a little darker. Beginning at least 4 hours after the application of the peel, you may apply a small amount of the included moisturizer. You can also wash your face with a gentle cleanser. It is important to avoid any excessive sweating, exercise, and sun exposure during this peel process.
On Days 3-6, the peeling process begins. Continue using the provided moisturizer as your skin will feel itchy. It is very important NOT to rub, pick, or pull on the peeling skin as this can lead to scarring.
On Day 7 and beyond, the peeling process is mostly complete, and you’ll begin to see your new, softer, rejuvenated skin! Continue to apply the moisturizer throughout this process and be sure to use sunscreen. We can help you create a simple skin regimen that will keep your skin hydrated and nourished! After 4 weeks or so, another peel can be applied if needed.
How much does a chemical peel cost?
The cost of this peel with the take-home care kit can range from $375-$500 per treatment. There may be discounts when multiple treatments are purchased together or if packaged with Botox or surgery.

The aging process of the face has many different components. As we age, not only does the facial tissue descend to produce a sagging appearance, but there is a substantial loss of tissue volume. The descent of tissue over time can also lead to facial wrinkles (nasolabial folds, lower eyelid bags, etc.). There are several tools to combat the aging process and rejuvenate the face. While surgical options exist to elevate facial tissue, a minimally invasive treatment option may work as well. Dermal fillers (Restylane®, RHA®, Radiesse®, Sculptra®) replace volume in the areas of tissue loss, can lead to tissue elevation and produce a rejuvenated face. There are many areas that dermal fillers or wrinkle fillers may be injected to reverse the aging process. All filler injections at See Clearly Vision are performed by physicians. Injecting into the tear trough or around the face requires excellent technique and the intimate knowledge of the surrounding anatomy that our oculoplastic, cosmetic, and ophthalmic surgeons possess.
See Clearly Vision can accommodate walk-in visits for Botox® and/or dermal filler injections including Restylane® and RHA®. Please contact us for a consultation with our expert surgeons to learn more about options for dermal fillers in Northern Virginia.
As we age, the texture, elasticity, and integrity of the skin changes, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. During this process, the features of our face can change which may produce an angry or puzzled appearance, especially in the brow area. A neurotoxin such as Botox®, Xeomin ®, or Daxxify ® can be injected into the muscles between the eyebrows (glabella) to help alleviate the vertical lines between the brow that lead to this appearance. Relaxing these muscles can lead to a mild elevation of the brow and a softer more rejuvenated appearance. These products can also be used off label to rejuvenate other areas of the face. Botox® and other neurotoxins can be used on the forehead, crow’s feet (wrinkles in the temple area), lips (smokers lines), chin dimples, jowls (to help elevate the corner of the lips), and neck (to alleviate neck bands).
Our surgeons know the anatomy of the face intimately, which can lead to safer injections and improved outcomes. Botox® begins to work in 3 days with a maximal effect in 7-10 days. The effects of Botox® can last for approximately 3 to 4 months depending on the amount of Botox® injected and the muscle mass of the area injected. All injections at See Clearly Vision are performed by physicians only. There is minimal pain with our injection technique.

Full and healthy appearing lips are a sign of youth and beauty. During the aging process the volume of the lips diminish and the texture of the tissue surrounding the lips age. This can lead to thin lips with fine wrinkles. In addition, the corners of the lips can descend to produce an angry or sad appearance. With the use of lip injections including lip fillers (Restylane® and RHA®) and neurotoxins (Botox® Cosmetic), the lips can be rejuvenated and enhanced without surgery. At our offices, we augment lips with lip fillers to produce a natural rejuvenated appearance to avoid the overfilled look. All lip injections at our offices are performed by our expert physicians. Lip augmentation is performed with topical anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The effects of lip augmentation using lip fillers can last anywhere from 9 to 12 months or longer, however the neurotoxin effect will diminish in approximately 3-4 months.
